News article from England Hockey:

Fourteen clubs from across the country descended on Nottingham Hockey Centre on Sunday 9 June for the inaugural Womens’ Over 50s Summer Championships.

With a seven-a-side format, the morning’s play saw teams divided into 4 pools Bedford, Bretforton, Dewsbury Kirklees and Redland Pool A, Canterbury, North Notts, Kingston upon Hull and Westberries Elderberries Pool B, Sevenoaks, Stratford and Timperley Pool C and Southgate, St Albans and Winscombe in Pool D. After the round robin matches new pools were formed for the afternoon session with the top two from each morning pool progressing into the Championship and the remaining teams into a plate group.

Winscombe came out on top of the six team plate group and it was good to see all teams secure at least a point.

Dewsbury, Timperley, Kingston and Southgate played Pool E with Dewsbury and Timperley wiinning 2 games each and drawing the game against each other, Dewsbury progressing to the gold medal match by 1 goal. Pool F between Canterbury, St Albans Redland and Sevenoaks was an even tighter affair with Canterbury, Redland and Sevenoaks finishing on equal points, with Redland coming out on top.

The final was a very tight affair, with Dewsbury converting a penalty corner in the last minute to take the title, over Redland. In the bronze medal game Timperley beat Canterbury 2-1.

There was very positive feedback from teams and they were grateful too to the local umpires who officiated on the day.
